Power Bombs are among Samus’ most powerful weapons in Metroid Dread, but acquiring some of them will definitely test your skills. This guide will show you map locations of where to find all 13 Power Bomb Capacity upgrades in the game, categorized by each of the eight areas—Artaria, Cataris, Dairon, Burenia, Gavoran, Elun, Ferenia, and Hanubia. Let’s start where Samus does: Artaria.

Artaria Power Bomb Tank Upgrade

You can only get one Power Bomb upgrade in Artaria.

Power Bomb Tank #1

Find this toward the center of the map, colored green. At the top of a wide open area, have Samus either space jump or use her Grabble Beam and spider magnet on the blue walls to reach this upgrade tucked into an alcove.

Cataris Power Bomb Tank Upgrades

You can find three Power Bomb tanks in Cataris.

Power Bomb Tank #2

The first of these is in the northeastern part of the map in a red area where you’ll need Samus’ Varia Suit to withstand the heat. The Grapple Beam is also a requirement to be able to open the door to a small area where this upgrade waits in another alcove above.

To gain access to this Power Bomb, shoot the beam block first, then roll up into the space and leave bombs or a Cross Bomb to eliminate the purple blocks. Jump out and quickly grab onto the blue underside of the platform to lower it. Have a dangling Samus get rid of the red blocks with a few Missiles. Let the platform lower completely, don’t let go until the blocks reappear to block the platform’s way back up.

Power Bomb Tank #3

Find this upgrade in a small, hidden room right below one of the E.M.M.I. tunnels on the left side of the green map’s green zone. Go into the tunnel and use a Power Bomb to reveal the room below. The item is sitting at the end of a line of Pitfall blocks. You’ll need to use Samus’ Speed Boost and Shinespark abilities to get this one.

Begin from the area above and to the left, on the left side of the Beam door. Start running and charging Samus’ Speed Boost as you fire your way through the door, then slide under the wall while still boosted. Immediately press down to store the Shinespark and quickly go down into the E.M.M.I. tunnel to put Samus stationary as a Morph Ball on the Beam block directly to the left of the Power Bomb item. Release the Shinespark with B, shuttling Samus to the right.

Power Bomb Tank #4

This Power Bomb Tank is just to the right of where you defeated Kraid. Go back to that battleground and into the tunnel at the bottom right. Use Samus’ Pulse Radar to reveal the blocks you can eliminate with Morph Ball bombs. When you get to the top, you’ll need to remove the Grapple Beam block to get the item.

Dairon Power Bomb Tank upgrades

Dairon contains three more Power Bomb Tank upgrades.

Power Bomb Tank #5

This Power Bomb Tank is in the small red chamber directly to the left of the elevator to Artaria—at the bottom left of Dairon. You’ll need to use the Grapple Beam or Space Jump to reach the blue ceiling and remove the Missile Blocks that are hidden with the upgrade.

Power Bomb Tank #6

Find this Power Bomb Tank towards the top middle of Dairon’s green E.M.M.I. area—right below and left of the elevator to Ferenia. The item is visible, but you can use the Pulse Radar to reveal hidden blocks that only a Power Bomb will eliminate. Set one off to get this item.

Power Bomb Tank #7

This Power Bomb Tank is located in the central blue area, surrounded by the E.M.M.I. zone. Without the Gravity Suit, you’ll need to set a Cross Bomb to remove the line of purple Bomb blocks. Then, set another bomb and position Morph Ball Samus just a nudge to the right of bomb so its explosion can propel her over the Pitfall blocks. Set another bomb to get rid of the last block.

Burenia Power Bomb Tank upgrade

There’s only one Power Bomb capacity upgrade in Burenia.

Power Bomb Tank #8

This item is located at the extreme southern tip of Burenia. Set a Power Bomb to remove the block barring Samus’ way to the upgrade, only to see the item behind a line of Speed Blocks you’ll need to Shinespark your way through. Go back to the area to the left to charge Samus’ Speed Booster.

Charge as you run right, then slide under the wall. Immediately in the next screen, press down to capture the Shinespark, then morph into a ball and position Samus in front of the Speed blocks before you release it.

Ghavoran Power Bomb Tank upgrade

Ghavoran also only holds one Power Bomb Tank upgrade.

Power Bomb Tank #9

This Power Bomb tank is located in the extreme top middle of Ghavoran’s map in blue, at the end of a hook shape. You need to use the Space Jump to get this item.

Elun Power Bomb Tank upgrade

Elun has another single upgrade.

Power Bomb Tank #10

This one is at the end of the maze to the far east of Elun, but you need to enter at the beginning—in the room to the left of where you defeated a Chozo soldier boss. Go in and make your way east using bombs to eliminate the purple Bomb blocks along the way. You won’t miss this Power Bomb Tank when you get to it.

Ferenia Power Bomb Tank upgrades

You can get two Power Bomb Tank upgrades in Ferenia.

Power Bomb Tank #11

Find this one at the top middle of the map in blue, at the height of a large area with many respawning enemies. Use the Pulse Radar to reveal a hidden Power Bomb block beneath the top platform. Set a Power Bomb to clear the way to this upgrade.

Power Bomb Tank #12

This Power Bomb Tank is visible at the top of a large area in the southern part of Ferenia’s E.M.M.I. zone. Using the Pulse radar will reveal hidden blocks up there, and you’ll see they’re Power Bomb blocks if you shoot them with Missiles. Set off a Power Bomb, and Space Jump to get this upgrade.

Hanubia Power Bomb Tank upgrade

The last Power Bomb Tank in Hanubia will be the toughest to get.

Power Bomb Tank #13

Start in the room just below and to the left of where the Power Bomb Tank is marked on the map. To your left are two Beam doors you’ll have open. You can only open the top door from the right, so you have to shoot it open through the walls as you charge up your Speed Booster and also shoot the bottom door open as you go through, into the save room. Press down to capture the Shinespark, and immediately go into the upper door before it closes.

Get into a Morph Ball and leave a bomb to remove the purple blocks so you can get to the orange Speed blocks. The tricky part is releasing the Shinespark at the right time, and with enough time, in the right direction to break the Speed blocks in the way of the Tank upgrade.

That’s all 13 Power Bomb Tank upgrades to find in Metroid Dread, for a total of 15! With some practice and a few tries, you’ll get the harder ones in no time—good luck!
