Sierra in Pokémon Go frequently makes appearances alongside other Team Rocket members. You can find her in Team Rocket Balloons, and she has the chance to appear at PokéStops in your local neighborhood, so long as you have a Rocket Radar item. She frequently receives an updated roster whenever Giovanni makes an appearance, but she sticks around in the game far more than he does. This guide covers all of Sierra’s weaknesses and the best Pokémon to counter them in Pokémon Go.

How to beat Rocket Leader Sierra

If you’re looking for Sierra or the other two Team Rocket leaders, you’ll need a Rocket Radar, which you can receive after defeating six Team Rocket grunts. For the Field Notes: Team Go Rocket Special Research during the Battle Weekend, Team Go Rocket grunts will be appearing more often, giving you multiple opportunities to defeat Sierra and the other Team Rocket leaders, Arlo and Cliff.

First Pokémon

The first Pokémon Sierra will use against you is Squirtle, a Water-type Pokémon. It will be weak against Electric and Grass-type moves. Of these two options, we recommend using a Grass-type as it will be resistant against a majority of Squirtle’s attacks.

Second Pokémon

For Sierra’s second Pokémon, she can use a Blaziken, Blastoise, or Lapras. Blaziken is a Fire and Fighting-type Pokémon, making it weak against Flying, Ground, Psychic, and Water-type moves. Blastoise is Water-type, making it weak to Electric and Grass-types, with Lapras being an Ice and Water-type, it will be weak to Electric, Fighting, Grass, or Rock-types. We recommend avoiding using any Grass-types as Blaskizen and Lapras can count them during a battle, but an Electric or Fighting-type would do well against these three Pokémon.

Third Pokémon

The third Pokémon Sierra can use against you is a Houndoom, Nidoqueen, and Drapion. These Pokémon share a similar weakness in Ground-type moves. Therefore, we recommend using a reliable Ground-type Pokémon to take them out, saving it for this final encounter. You should have little trouble with these three Pokémon, but if you do, having a Pokémon that also knows one Ground-type Pokémon in your roster outside of this primary choice would be a good idea to secure victory against Sierra.

After defeating Sierra, you’ll have the chance to capture a shadow Squirtle.
