There’s been a lot of binge-watching going on while under quarantine. The Tiger King has been the hottest thing on Netflix this past week, The Office hasn’t stopped streaming in I don’t know how long, and in two days I finished the entire first season of New Girl… again.
I don’t know how someone could be out of things to watch. But, if you think you are, fret not. Netflix has a smorgasbord of new offerings coming April 1, including all six seasons of Community.
An outlandish comedy about human relations
Community, the witty NBC sitcom from the mind of Dan Harmon, follows a ragtag community college study group. Set in the fictional town of Greendale, CO, the group’s members battle over-the-top antics and hijinks as they chase their goal of graduation day. Ordinary situations become mountainous as the group members tackle each day with the odds seemingly stacked against them.
You’ll see bits of yourself within each cast member. Shirley, portrayed by Yvette Nicole Brown, is a single mother with dreams of opening her own business. Danny Pudi’s Abed is a unique soul who’s unafraid of other people’s opinions. And then there’s Britta. Gillian Jacobs’ character discovers more about herself throughout the series than many of us do in a lifetime. The show is laugh out loud funny, no doubt. But, there’s a lot more experience at Greendale Community College than just the jokes.
Hulu and Netflix combine forces
Featuring A-listers Alison Brie, Donald Glover, and Joel McHale, Community has been a long-time staple of Hulu’s television show lineup. Hulu subscribers have been cackling from Dan Harmon’s series for years, and the demands for a Community feature film still carries buzz on the internet.
So what does this transition mean for Hulu viewers?
Some subscribers may be fearful that this means Community will be dropped from Hulu’s services. If this is you, think again. The show will feature on both platforms for the foreseeable future, meaning both Netflix and Hulu users will have access to the sitcom at all times.
What else is coming in April?
Netflix isn’t only bringing Community on board next month. Tons of new movies, TV shows, and specials will be added to the streaming service. Among the leading titles confirmed are Lethal Weapon 1-4, The Matrix, The Social Network, and the brand new series The Big Show Show.
