At the start of the current console generation, we did not think there would be any chance of playing our old games on the current systems, but Microsoft gave us the wonderful surprise at E3 2015 when they announced backwards compatibility for the Xbox One for Xbox 360 games. We’ve seen plenty of classic games added so far, including the all important number 300 yesterday, and it sounds like plenty of gamers are taking advantage of this fantastic feature.

Xbox head Phil Spencer is constantly using Twitter to communicate with Xbox fans and his support for the backwards compatibility program on Xbox One has been very apparent. He has always been for the gamers, unlike the previous head of Xbox that led to the terrible console unveiling. Backwards compatibility is definitely one of the best additions since he took over and he has revealed that a lot of people are using it.

“Now over 300 back compat titles. Nearly 50% of XB1 owners playing BC games is great to see. Thanks for supporting the program.”

The fact that around 50% of Xbox One owners are utilizing this feature is very impressive, as there are already a ton of great games out for the Xbox One. They have no just been adding little games either, as they have mixed in games of all levels. In fact, the latest ones added were kind of a surprise with the three Bioshock games. We thought this was unlikely previously with the release of Bioshock: The Collection, but they just keep delivering.

There is no question that backwards compatibility has sold a lot of people on the Xbox One that previously were not planning on getting one, as they could play a lot of their 360 library that they had digitally or on disc without having to turn on the Xbox 360.

It sounds like Xbox is still set on bringing us even more backwards compatible games, so hopefully some of the most requested games remaining will be added sooner rather than later.
