An alternate Thor is debuting in the pages of Avengers Forever #8. Marvel has provided the good folks at CBR with an exclusive preview of the issue. It includes a look at an alternate, and very broken, God of Thunder.

Who Is This Alternate Thor?

Throughout Jason Aaron’s Avengers Forever series, a different version of the superhero team has been coming together. These new Avengers are banning together to take on the Multiversal Masters of Evil. However, the new team is nothing like the one readers are used to. Instead, it is made up of alternate versions of the heroes from different universes. For instance, one member is Tony Stark from Earth-818. There, Stark is not Iron Man but Ant Man.

Well, according to the exclusive preview, the next member to join the team is an alternate Thor. Specifically, the one from Earth-56337. In the pages, Thor is seen traveling through the Himalayas. Soon, he is interrupted by an incoming Mjolnir, which the God of Thunder cannot lift. In this universe, Asgard is destroyed and Midgard (Earth) is enslaved. This alternate Thor is no longer worthy to wield his trusty hammer.

Who Is Thor Without His Hammer?

Of course, this is not the first time that Marvel has taken Mjolnir away from Odin’s son. In fact, another of Jason Aaron’s Thor runs sees the God of Thunder deemed unworthy of the hammer. Instead, Jane Foster wields Mjolnir and becomes The Mighty Thor. Not to mention Captain America has wielded the hammer in times of need, proving that Thor is not the only one worthy.

Still, a world where Thor does not have his hammer is not a great one. Having seen his home burned and Earth enslaved, this alternate Thor will turn elsewhere for guidance and power. A synopsis for the upcoming issues suggests that this Thor will find guidance as a pupil of the Thunderer of mystical K’un-Lun. Perhaps we will see a Thor reimagined as the Iron Fist.
