The story of Soul Hackers 2 takes place in a world facing an apocalypse. An entity known as Aion has tasked two AI agents, Ringo and Figue, to halt Earth’s destruction and resurrect the slain Devil Summoners, humans capable of summoning and commanding demons, using their Soul Hack ability. Each of these Devil Summoners represented different Devil Summoner factions, and their murders played a role in triggering Earth’s downfall. It’s up to Ringo and Figue to discover why that is and how to stop it.

“In a war between devil summoners, it’s up to Ringo and her team to decrypt destiny and save the world from apocalypse! Soul Hackers 2 inherits the essence of Devil Summoner: Soul Hacker while evolving the game concept with a more defined art style, addictive RPG gameplay, and Atlus’ next-level storytelling”, Atlus said today in a statement released alongside the trailer.

The gameplay of Soul Hackers 2 shows the player leading a party of characters through dungeons and facing a variety of monsters in turn-based combat. This is presented in a similar fashion is featured in the Persona series, another Megami Tensei spin-off series.

The very first Devil Summoner game was released in Japan in 1996, though it was never officially localized for the West, and to this day, has still not been. Its follow-up, Soul Hackers, launched in 1997 and was translated and re-released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2013.

Soul Hackers 2 is being directed by Eiji Ishida, whose most recent credit goes to Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey and Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE.
