As an animated sci-fi series, The Hospital will follow the adventures of Dr. Klak (Keke Palmer) and Dr. Sleech (Greta Lee), two alien best friends and brilliant but unpredictable surgeons who specialize in rare diseases. After Dr. Sleech contracts a disease from another dimension, Dr. Klak and Dr. Sleech must race against time to “find a cure before the universe is destroyed,” according to Deadline. Along with Palmer and Lee, the cast will also include Natasha Lyonne (Orange is the New Black) as Nurse Tup, Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids) as Dr. Vlam, Kieran Culkin (Succession) as Dr. Plowp, and Sam Smith (Pitch Perfect 2) as Dr. Azel.
The Hospital was first created in November 2019 by Cirocco Dunlap (Big Mouth) and will be produced by Lyonne and Rudolph, and Danielle Renfrew Behrens under the banner of Animal Pictures. “Cirocco is a total original,” the trio told Variety. “Brilliant and wildly talented with an utterly singular voice and boundless imagination. She’s also ridiculously funny and finds the most unexpected ways to make you laugh while exploring complex existential questions! It has been a thrill to watch her nurture the seed of an idea and grow it into two seasons so beautifully.”
