AMC has announced some big plans for the Anne Rice Cinematic Universe, with a TV crossover planned between Interview With a Vampire and Mayfair Witches, both breakout series created by author Anne Rice. Mark Johnson, an executive producer for both series, has spoken on the network’s plans for the crossover, which will reportedly include a collection of clever easter eggs.
Interview With a Vampire, based on Rice’s 1976 gothic novel, stars Jacob Anderson as vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac, whose life story is being recounted to journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian). Louis, a rich, closeted black man, was turned in 1910 by the charismatic vampire Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid). The relationship between the two men quickly gets deep and complicated, and the presence of Lestat’s newest fledgling Claudia (Bailey Bass) isn’t helping matters.
Interview With a Vampire first premiered on AMC on October 2nd, 2022, and is executive produced by Anne and Christopher Rice, Rolin Jones, Alan Taylor, and Mark Johnson. It was followed by the second series in Anne Rice’s AMC Universe, Mayfair Witches, on January 8th, 2023.
The AMC Series Mayfair Witches, based on Anne Rice’s Life of the Mayfair Witches trilogy, stars Alexandra Daddario (The White Lotus) as Dr. Rowan Fielding, a neurosurgeon who discovers she’s the heiress to the Mayfair family, a group of powerful witches haunted by a dark spirit. Following the discovery of Rowan’s heritage in an accident involving her adoptive mother Elena (Erica Gimpel), Rowan is introduced to Ciprien Grieve, an agent of the secretive Talamasca society who’s been assigned to keep an eye on Rowan.
Mayfair Witches is executive produced by Johnson, Rice, and Rice, alongside Michael Uppendahl, Jeff Freilich, Michelle Ashford, and Esta Spalding.
Mark Johnson on AMC’s Anne Rice Crossover
Mark Johnson, who serves as an executive producer for both Interview With a Vampire and Mayfair Witches, and whose previous projects include other AMC series like Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad, recently spoke about the possibility of a crossover between the two series at a press tour for the TCA.
Johnson was, of course, vague on what those “connections” between the shows might be, but apparently did hint at a character that appears in both Interview With a Vampire and Mayfair Witches, tying the two series together “in a strange way”. Another possible connection is through the Talamasca society introduced in the first episode of Mayfair Witches, which appears in both of Rice’s novel series.
Interview With a Vampire and Mayfair Witches are both available on AMC and AMC+. More information on the planned crossover will become available as the development of the project moves forward.
