The cast of Warner Bros. and Mattel’s upcoming Barbie movie continues to grow. According to an exclusive report from Deadline, actress America Ferrera is joining Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling for the live-action Barbie movie from writer and director Greta Gerwig. Margot Robbie is a producer on the film and also plays the titular role as Barbie, while Ryan Gosling will play the role of her partner, Ken. America Ferrera’s role in the Barbie movie is not yet known.
Aside from some of the cast and crew, not much is known about the upcoming Barbie movie. However, with a script written by Greta Gerwig and her partner, Noah Baumbach, the movie is sure to deliver a fresh take on the character and her role in the modern world. Although Gerwig has been a part of several films both in front of and behind the camera, she has only written and directed two films on her own. Both of her movies — Lady Bird and Little Women — received high praise from critics and audiences, along with three Academy Award nominations.
America Ferrera has been acting for the last twenty years. She became widely known in 2006 for her role as Betty Suarez in the ABC series Ugly Betty. Since then, Ferrera has appeared in numerous movies and TV sh0ws, including the How to Train Your Dragon movies and the NBC comedy series, Superstore. Ferrera will soon make her feature film directorial debut on an adaptation of the New York Times best-selling novel, I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter, which was written by Erika Sanchez. However, Ferrera has also directed episodes of Netflix’s Gentefied.
