American Idol judges have paid tribute to season 19 runner-up Willie Spence. The last thing anyone could have wished to hear was Willie Spence’s death. However, news of his demise broke out a few days ago and left fans and judges in shock.
Willie Spence’s Death
Willie tragically passed away on October 11. He was 23. Per TMZ, he died from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident in Tennessee.
A family source disclosed that his car had a flat tire which he fixed on his way from Tennessee to Atlanta. However, the 23-year-old unfortunately crashed into a semi-truck that was parked by the road afterward.
Just before the fatal accident, the talented singer posted a video of himself singing. Former American Idol contestant Katharine McPhee, who performed a duet with Willie, was among the first to react to the news of his passing.
Katharine added that it was a pleasure to sing with and know Willie.
American Idol Judges Pay Tribute
The American Idol community mourned after the news of Willie’s death. American Idol also made a statement on Twitter and Instagram conveying their grief and sending condolences to his loved ones.

American Idol judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan also paid homage to the talented singer, Willie Spence, who passed away at a young age.

Lionel wrote that it was a blessing to see Willie shine.
Willie became popular for his rendition of Rihanna’s song Shine bright like a diamond, with which he also won the judges over. For the final episode of the season, he sang Georgia on My Mind in honor of his home state of Georgia. He also sang A Change Is Gonna Come and Stand Up. However, he only managed to clinch the runner-up position behind eventual winner Chayce Beckham.
Willie will surely be missed. His gentle soul and angelic voice drew many to him. However, his songs and memories of the time spent with him will keep him forever in the hearts of his family and those who took joy in his music.
