Amnesia: Rebirth is one of the horror games that many people were waiting to be released! Frictional Games has become one of the more known developers for pure terror fueled experience, though, for those who don’t like not fighting back, these games might not be for you! On the other hand, if you love being immersed in the atmosphere of genuine dread, then give them a try! One question on gamers’ minds is how to save in Amnesia: Rebirth?

How to save

Sadly, there is no manual save option in Amnesia: Rebirth. The game creates checkpoints for you as you progress through the story; this system has been used throughout every game Frictional have made: SOMA and Amnesia: The Dark Descent - so nothing has changed. If you’ve played those titles, you know what to expect and what you’re getting into. Yes, you might lose some progress if you meet your demise, but it won’t be hours of progress, as the game is generous with its checkpoint system.

There is a way to slightly save your own game, as you can choose Save and Exit from the menu, which will create a small pocket save for you, but not in the way you would hope. When the game saves, it doesn’t keep you at the same location you saved at. Instead, you’ll resume at the nearest checkpoint. If you’re having trouble in the area and you lack supplies such as matches, you can reload an early save and explore a bit more, but the game caps the limit on these. Meaning only 25 saves are allowed, so every time a checkpoint is made, it will overwrite the earliest save.

A lot of people question the saving system that Frictional uses; however, when you think about it, it makes sense. They want you to be enveloped in the atmosphere they’ve created, save-scumming your way to victory, ruins what they are trying to achieve. Amnesia: Rebirth focuses on being a horror narrative first, game second - not being able to save manually keeps the tension high and ramps up the terror, as you can’t rely on something that isn’t in the game.
