TurboGrafx and PC Engine fans, rejoice! The company Analogue has just announced its new all-in-one console for “nearly every NEC system ever made”: the Analogue Duo. This $199 console will launch in 2021 with limited quantities.

The system will be able to play HuCards for the TurboGrafx-16, PC Engine, and SuperGrafx consoles. Also, it will be compatible with TurboGrafx, PC Engine, and Super Arcade CD-ROMs. Analogue has built-in Bluetooth and 2.4g, allowing you to use up to four wireless controllers. It includes two USB ports and even a port for the original TurboGrafx-16 controller. The Duo will come with its own HDMI cable, USB cable, and power supply. As for the controllers, you will have to purchase them separately.
According to Analogue, the console is “completely engineered in FPGA” and is not an emulation system.
The Analogue Duo will feature a traditional cartridge slot and a CD-ROM drive. The design of the console pays homage to the 1992 NEC TurboDuo (The North American version of the PC Engine Duo). It will be available in two colors: USA black and Japanese white. At the time of writing this article, pre-orders are not yet available.
The TurboGrafx-16 was released in 1989 in North America. However, the famous 16-bit juggernauts in the Sega Genesis and the Super Nintendo largely overshadowed the NEC console. The PC Engine, however, was a huge success in Japan. Earlier this year, Konami released mini-consoles for the PC Engine and TurboGrafx-16.
This isn’t the first time Analogue has tried to resurrect a retro console. The FPGA engineered Analogue Pocket is a handheld console that is compatible with all Game Boy (Color and Advance), Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket Color, and Atari Lynx games.
