The entire point to Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is to evolve. The game challenges you at the beginning to evolve faster into a modern human than our ancestors did. Evolution relies on unlocking skills and building up neuronal energy. Similar to the unlocking skills guide, there are ways to increase your evolution speed.

Respawn First, and IGN both cover ways to maximize the evolutionary experience. They agree, and even the game mentions some of them during gameplay. There are three main ways to increase your evolution efficiency.

Carry Children

While a little counter-intuitive, you’re going to do your child good by having them nearby. Apes, including humans, are incredibly social, learning through social interaction and experience. In Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, this translates to an increase in neuronal energy when carrying children. Everything you do with a child or two on your back will increase how much neuronal energy you gain.

However, there’s the chance the parent dies and leaves the infant stranded. It’s similar to the beginning of the game, forcing you to locate that infant with another adult member. But it’s worth it to evolve faster.

Explore

Exploration and novelty are essential in Ancestors. The more you learn, the more unlocks you earn. While frightening, for both the early hominid and the human player to venture into the fear-filled forest, it helps boost evolution.

Try new things and explore new environments for the best results. Find and make new items, discover new places and species, make new friends, and keep progressing.

Use Your Senses

There are three senses at your disposal: sight, smell, and sound. Using all three together increases the amount of neuronal experience you gain in that neuronal chart for evolution.
