Moviegoers recently saw Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire reprise their versions of Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spider-Man in the MCU film Spider-Man: No Way Home. While both actors had their tenures ended due to critically panned films, Maguire’s portrayal is still praised for the first two films of his trilogy. Garfield, on the other hand, is remembered less fondly due to the well-reviewed but underwhelming The Amazing Spider-Man and the critically panned The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The poor performance of the second film led to the cancellation of the planned third film, but the massive success of No Way Home has fans campaigning on social media for Garfield to be given the third film they feel he deserves.

Garfield’s portrayal of Spider-Man was almost doomed from the start. The fact that he wasn’t Tobey Maguire already garnered him some hate from Maguire fans. However, Garfield’s acting skills and his extreme commitment to mastering the role garnered him much praise. Even a few die-hard fans of Maguire can admit Garfield did some things better than Maguire in his portrayal of the character. But weak storylines and poor writing wouldn’t serve Maguire well, and his tenure was abruptly ended. However, he has received much acclaim for his reprisal of the character in No Way Home. So much so that fans feel he is worthy of at least one more film to allow the character some closure.
