Balancing a professional and personal life can be challenging. Spider-Man and Social Network star Andrew Garfield told GQ for the magazine’s Men of the Year issue about how he feels “guilt” over not settling down to start a family by the time he turned 40, which he turns next August.
Looking around at his circles of friends, Andrew Garfield saw his career take over his thought about starting a family. He talked about how he thought he would be “the first to have kids and settle down.” Since 2010’s The Social Network by David Fincher, he turned into a huge star in Hollywood with films like The Amazing Spider-Man and No Way Home, Hacksaw Ridge, and tick, tick… BOOM!. During this time, he also has been nominated for two Oscars from both tick, tick… BOOM! and Hacksaw Ridge.

It is not a definitive plan to start a family, but Andrew Garfield does wish that if it were to have happened, he wished his mom would have been able to meet them. His mother, Lynn Garfield, died in 2019 from pancreatic cancer. The 39-year-old actor spoke about “letting go” of ideas, like the “big one” of his mom meeting his future children. Still, to him, she will be there “in spirit” for “all the big” things to happen in his life.
While recognizing his desire for a family that got backtracked by his career, Andrew Garfield is still keeping himself busy working on several upcoming projects. He starred in the Emmy-nominated crime drama Under the Banner of Heaven, which gained him much recognition for a powerful performance as Detective Jeb Pyre. Up ahead, he will continue his run on TV after a long stance in film from previous years with miniseries Brideshead Revisited and Hot Air.
