If you’re looking to add to your Bug Critterpedia, then we’re taking a look at how to catch a fly in Animal Crossing: New Horizons! Normally, you can catch more flies with honey, but in this game that’s not the case. However, there is a specific method you’ll need to employ to get one!

How to Catch a Fly

Flies are available at all times of the year and are active during all parts of the day. So, no need to worry about seasonality or what hemisphere you’re in!

While you should never litter in your day-to-day life, you’re going to need to put aside that for now because we’ll need to do that in the game to catch a fly. What you need to do is find a piece of garbage to place on your island. In fact, you might want to place multiple pieces of garbage. These are things you will find by fishing, they can be cans, tires, or boots. Go to an open area on your island and scatter these around. I wouldn’t place them too close together, but not too far apart either. Once you’ve done this, you will just need to wait…

Head off to another part of your island and comeback to your trash heap. If you’re lucky, you will see a fly buzzing around and landing on your garbage. If not, you will need to run around and return later to see if one has spawned. It’s just a waiting game at this point, so hopefully you will get lucky sooner rather than later! Once you see one, make sure to sneak up on it. You can do this by taking your net out and holding the A-button. This will have you pull back your net and walk slowly. Creep up on the fly and when you’re in range let go of the A-button! You will drop your net down and hopefully catch the little bugger. Now that you’ve caught yourself one, there’s nothing left to do but take it to Blathers or sell it for some Bells!
