Being the Ricardos stars, Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem will reunite for the Skydance and Apple animated film Spellbound. The film will also star Rachel Zegler, John Lithgow, Nathan Lane, Jenifer Lewis, André De Shields, and Jordan Fisher. Nicole Kidman will voice the hyper-precise Queen of Lumbria, Ellsmere, and Javier Bardem is voicing the big-hearted King, Solon. Zegler is playing Princess Ellian and the child of Ellsmere and Solon. The princess and her parents go on a quest to save her family and kingdom from dark forces that change them into monsters. The Apple Original Films and Skydance Animation film is not only animated but also a musical. Zegler has already shown her vocal talents in the West Side Story remake. Vicky Jenson is directing the film, written by Lauren Hynek and Elizabeth Martin. Alan Menken is writing the film’s original score and songs, with lyrics by Glenn Slater.
Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem Both Earned Oscar Nominations for ‘Being the Ricardos’
Aaron Sorkin made Being the Ricardos, which starred Nicole Kidman as Lucille Ball and Javier Bardem as Ricky Ricardo. Kidman earned her fifth Academy Award nomination, the fourth for Bardem. She most recently starred in the series and film Nine Perfect Strangers and The Northman. The Apple and Skydance animated film Spellbound is not her first musical. She played the cabaret performer Satine in Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge!.
On the other hand, Bardem was supposed to play the lead in the film adaptation of Nine but dropped out of the project. So the animated musical film Spellbound is new terrain for the actor. He most recently starred in Dune and is working on the sequel. This may not be a live-action cinematic reunion for Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem, but it still counts. The Skydance and Apple animated film already has a strong cast; now it’s up to execution.
There is no official release date for the film Spellbound.
