“We’re thrilled to have Anthony Mackie on board”,  spoke Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions. “His ability to blend comedy, action, and drama is perfect for the Twisted world we’re creating.”

The Legacy of Twisted Metal and Mackie’s Role

Fans of Twisted Metal will know the character, John Doe, as “a motor-mouthed outsider who is offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland”, according to the official synopsis.

This high-octane comedy based on an original pitch by Deadpool scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will follow the Doe as he faces off against dangerous and savage marauders driving powerful, destructive vehicles, and bent on interfering with his mission. Anthony Mackie was cast for the role not only based on his past performance but on the determination that he could bring to the character of John Doe.

“We’ve been big fans of Anthony’s phenomenal body of work over the years and knew he was the only actor who could play a character as complex, funny, and compelling as John Doe.  Fortunately for us, he agreed,” said Glenn Adilman, EVP Comedy Development at Sony TV.

While there is currently no confirmed release date for Twisted Metal, it is possible that the Anthony Mackie-starring series will be featured on HBO. Sony Pictures Television does not offer any streaming services, but they have recently partnered with both HBO and PlayStation Productions to produce several other shows for the platform, such as the upcoming The Last of Us series.
