After months of speculation, a report from Variety confirms Anthony Mackie will return for Captain America 4.

As fans of the MCU know, Mackie’s character slowly embraced the identity of Captain America in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier series on Disney+. Now, it appears Mackie will be taking his winged version of Cap onto the silver screen.

Unfortunately, Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, runs a tight ship, so details about Captain America 4 are unknown. For now, all we know is that both Mackie and the head writer for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Malcolm Spellman, will return. Spellman will co-write the new movie. Mackie’s co-star, Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes (the Winter Soldier), is not yet confirmed to return. However, given the duo’s on and off-screen chemistry, it is likely Stan will return for another Captain America movie.

Another likely appearance for a new Captain America movie is Wyatt Russell’s John Walker. Russell also starred alongside Mackie in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. He briefly held the mantle of Captain America before losing his temper and the iconic shield with it.

Though Captain America 4 will be Anthony Mackie’s first leading role in an MCU movie, he is no stranger to the universe. Mackie first appeared in the MCU in the 2014 movie, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Since then, he has made several appearances in Captain America: Civil War, the Avengers sequels, and Ant-Man. However, Mackie will now be leading his own film. He is likely to be a major player in the MCU for years to come.

Marvel Studios is releasing a full slate of movies in the next few years. So, it is unlikely Cap 4 will be coming any time soon. But when it does, it will surely be a welcomed addition to the MCU and Mackie’s career.
