The new legend is Newcastle in Apex Legends.

Apex Legends Season 13 is basically here and we finally get Newcastle. After all of the leaks and reveals, Newcastle will be the new playable legend in the game. He has a very interesting kit that is sure to change up the meta in Apex Legends in some ways. Here’s everything you need to know about Newcastle in Apex Legends Season 13.

Newcastle Abilities

If you are familiar with Apex Legends, the best way to describe Newcastle is a mix of both Lifeline and Gibraltar. If you aren’t familiar with the game, Newcastle is a team-centered legend built as a tank-like field medic. He will also be Fortified which is a buff that Gibraltar and Caustic have which reduces damage while not being slowed down. Here are his abilities:

  • Retrieve the Wounded – Revive and drag downed allies while protecting them with your knockdown shield.
  • Mobile Shield – Throw a movable drone that creates a mobile energy shield.
  • Castle Wall – Leap to an ally or target area and create a fortified barricade.

Newcastle Playstyle

Now that you know Newcastle’s abilities, how will he be played? Obviously, Newcastle is built to support his teammates, so be sure to do that in battle. Whether it is before, during, or after a battle, use the Mobile Shield to provide cover and use the Retrieve the Wounded to revive your fallen allies. You’ll typically want to use Castle Wall before a fight to make a certain chokehold impenetrable, but you can also use it in the heat of battle by jumping to your ally’s location.

Newcastle Team Composition

Newcastle introduces a lot of team viability and works best with coordinated teams. With Rampart’s buff, Newcastle and Rampart combos will be extremely deadly. Pairing up with a Wraith or an Ash would be good too to ensure you have a getaway for when your defenses get breached. Hunkering down in one area is an option though, and pairing with Wattson, Caustic, Rampart, and/or Gibraltar are all good options.

Newcastle Tips

Though he isn’t out quite yet, some tips for Newcastle is to play defensively. Unlike Mad Maggie and Ash, Newcastle should not be charging into battle to start fights. Newcastle should be played more like Lifeline or other defensive legends like Caustic or Wattson to provide cover and assistance to your team. If you do that, you’ll win fights by supporting your team and picking them up when they fall.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
