Finally, Apple has confirmed the date for its highly anticipated October Event. Although the tech giant already hosted an event in September introducing a handful of devices, we were sort of left hanging for new Mac announcements. However, now we know that the Apple October Event is coming up on October 18.
It may seem like the company has already made the most significant announcements, but Mac users know that this year is far from over on the product release front. Apple released some new iPads, its latest installment of the iPhone, and its latest Apple Watch last month. This time though, it will be shifting its focus to its latest M1-powered, beastly Mac computers.
October Event Theme, Date, Time
The event is tagged “Unleashed‘, and as we said earlier, it will be coming up on October 18, exactly six days from now. The Apple October Event will start streaming at 10 AM PT or 1 PM ET on that day.
How to Watch the October Event
Like all post-pandemic events, the Apple October event will be entirely virtual and pre-recorded. Judging from how fun these new zesty events have been, we are not complaining about that at all. Like all the other Apple events, the October event will be streaming on Apple’s website, Apple TV, and Youtube.
What Will be Unveiled at Apple’s October Event
We’ll get a definite release date for macOS Monterey, which was revealed earlier this year. We could probably expect a release as soon as October 19 (fingers crossed on that one, though. Apple has often struggled with releasing macOS on time). You can check out more of what to expect from Monterey here.
Although there were reports that Apple could be delaying their Mac lineup refresh due to chip shortages, we still think they would be revealed next week. Expect a new 16-inch M1X powered MacBook Pro, a 14-inch replacement for Apple’s smaller-screened Pro laptop lineup, and if we are lucky, new AirPods as well. There may be a few surprises, but these are all but confirmed.
What to Expect in the New MacBook Pro, AirPods
It’s definitely set in stone now: the Touch Bar is touching earth. A standard row of function keys will replace Apple’s failed experiment. The new models will be visited by the ghosts of MacBooks past, and along will be returning the HDMI port, an SD card slot (probably), and MagSafe, Apple’s extremely popular charging technology that they had shelved in 2016. (They brought it to the iPhone, but it has not had the same effect at all).
As for Apple’s new iteration of the AirPods, expect an AirPods Pro-esque design, but without noise cancellation. The new AirPods are already coming later than anticipated, and we suspect they’ll move off shelves as quickly as toilet paper did in the first half of 2020.
