Colin Farrell is teaming up with Apple after the company made an official order for the drama series Sugar, as reported by Variety. Outside of its detective story in Los Angeles, plot details are unknown, but it is known that it will be penned by Mark Protosevich (Thor).

Apple acquired the rights to Sugar in 2021. Until now, it was not ordered to become a series.

On top of handling the leading role in the drama, Colin Farrell will executive produce with the show’s head writer. Fernando Meirelles (Two Popes) will direct and executive produce. Scott Greenberg, Chip Vucelich, Simon Kinberg, and Audrey Chon will also executive produce. The project marks the second outing between the streaming service and Kinberg with the series Invasion. The sci-fi drama was ordered for another season with Kinberg still attached with co-creator David Weil.

Protosevich will also be working on the sci-fi movie Freakshow as director and writer. No other cast members are attached to that project.

Colin Farrel Working With Apple and More

This is not the first streaming service that Colin Farrell will work on. He is attached to reprise his role as The Penguin from The Batman in a series for HBO Max with Lauren LeFranc (Agents of SHIELD) as writer and showrunner. The Batman director Matt Reeves will be executive producer with Farrell. No other details are known about the project or its connection to the first film or its announced sequel. Taking on a producing role will be Farrell’s first since 2009’s Triage.

Looking in the future, alongside the Apple series, Colin Farrell will star in Thirteen Lives, The Banshees of Inisherin, and Love Child. With The Batman getting a sequel, he will likely continue his role as the iconic villain with returning stars Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, and Andy Serkis.
