The Sega Dreamcast was a great console. And if you disagree I’m willing to fight you over it. Seriously though. It was ahead of its time in many ways. And it featured a library that many other consoles would love to replicate. I got mine on launch day and supported it well past its premature demise. However, it seems some diehard fans are unwilling to let it go quietly into its grave.  Which is how I am able to bring you the news of the successful Kickstarter campaign for Arcade Racing Legends. A brand new Dreamcast game coming out in 2019. This is fortuitous timing, as September of this year will mark the 20th anniversary of the console.

The developer PixelHeart is no stranger to making new games for retro consoles. They have dozens of other games under their belt. Including several other titles for the Dreamcast. So Arcade Racing Legends is not unknown territory for them. The Kickstarter had a set goal of $28,070, a number it pasted within a couple of weeks. And as of this writing, there are 18 days left in the campaign. Consequently, there are stretch goals going all the way up to around $224,000. So if this project interests you, then you can still back it and help them reach those goals.

One of the coolest things about the game is the inclusion of fan-favorite cars from other Sega games. PixelHeart is looking to add vehicles from Crazy Taxi, Daytona USA, Sega Rally, Out Run, and more. These additions would definitely make Arcade Racing Legends a must-have for fans of those classic titles. If everything works out the game is looking at a December release date. So, just missing the official 20th anniversary day in September. But it’s in the same year so I will cut them some slack.  After all, it’s not every day you can pick up a brand new game for a 20-year-old console.
