Elden Ring is the latest Soulslike game from FromSoftware, the developers behind the wildly popular Dark Souls and Bloodborne franchises. Elden Ring does retain some of the mechanics from its predecessors but changes other mechanics, leading players to wonder if Bonfires will make a return.

Elden Ring does not have Bonfires but retains the rest mechanic with new resting places known as Sites of Grace. Sites of Grace allow players to rest before continuing their adventure, much like the Bonfires in Darks Souls and Lamps in Bloodborne. These rest points pepper the game’s world, much like how players find Bonfires and Lamps throughout Dark Souls and Bloodborne.

One key difference between checkpoints in previous FromSoftware games and Elden Ring is that Sites of Grace often spawn Rays of Guiding Light to lead players to their following key location. Players have the freedom to choose whether to follow these rays or not, but having the guidance makes traversing Elden Ring’s open-world a more fluid experience.

Elden Ring lauches on Feb. 25, 2022 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and PC.
